These stop-motion ads were captured frame by frame with a stills camera. Naturally, that means that no sound is being captured during filming, so I had to create the sound design for each of these pieces.

Disney Conservation Fund
This piece for the Disney Conservation Fund was shot on location, but without much natural sound. The client wanted a lush sound design with a light touch on the mix to make it seem as natural as possible.
I researched the animals filmed, finding accurate noises to fill out the soundscape. Many of the interviews were filmed outdoors in noisy spaces and required a good deal of noise canceling to make them flow as seamlessly as possible.

A lot of the audio for this piece was recorded by the camera mic, so it took some time to restore the verité scenes so that the dialogue and ambient noise could be heard clearly. The trick here was to mix both foley and recorded audio together indistinguishably to bolster what was captured on set.

Elemental Excelerator
This piece took a lot of time and thought because it came to me with very little audio and only a few sound effects that the client asked me to incorporate. The speed of the edit meant that sounds were only heard for just a few frames and the length of the piece meant that there were over 250 edited sounds throughout the film.
I really enjoyed coming up with creative solutions for sounds that I didn't have in my library. At 02:35, the sounds of flowers falling onto a table is actually a crackling fireplace with all low-end filtered out to leave only the high end crackling sound.
This mix is a bit heavy on the music and I would have loved have one where the sound design does the heavy lifting.

As a native speaker of Arabic, I loved working on the sound design and mix of this piece. The story is beautiful and I was able to work with a lot of natural sound they recorded on location.
My task was to flesh out the spaces where the recorded sounds were absent or muffled and create a tasteful soundscape seamlessly incorporating my sound design with the natural sound.
For this Director's Cut, I was allowed to mix the background sounds and throwaway dialogue forward and allow them the space to fill out the scene as part of the soundscape.
